National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization
The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization is dedicated to advancing the philosophy and practice of hospice care to meet the unique needs of each terminally ill person and his or her family and to serve as a voice and resource for its members. Their official site contains information on what hospice is as well as how to find an appropriate one. Hospice Action Network
The Hospice Action Network (HAN) is dedicated to preserving and expanding access to hospice care in America. They do this by connecting advocates with one another and providing them with the tools they need to fight for the hospice cause at home, in Washington, DC and online.
The Carolinas Center for Hospice and End of Life Care
With offices in Cary, N.C. and Columbia, S.C., the Center is a comprehensive resource to improve hospice, palliative, and end of life care, while promoting recognition of the dying process and death as a natural part of life. Children's Hospice International
Children's Hospice International (CHI) was founded as a non-profit organization to provide a network of support and care for children with life-threatening conditions and their families. CHI recognizes the right and need for children and their families to choose health care and support whether in their own home, hospital, or hospice care facility.
Hospice Foundation of America
The Hospice Foundation of America is a not-for-profit organization that provides leadership in the development and application of hospice and its philosophy of care. Through programs of professional development, research, public education and information, Hospice Foundation of America assists those who cope either personally or professionally with terminal illness, death, and the process of grief. Their site provides insights on hospice care, and how to select a hospice and information on managing grief and loss. Through their site, you can subscribe to their "Journey's" newsletter, packed with a variety of valuable information and articles.

Hospice Net is a very comprehensive, user friendly layman's web site on hospice care. Founded in 1953, the United Way of Gaston County raises monies to fund meaningful programs and services that impact problems identified by the community as being of highest priority. Gaston Hospice is one of thirty-one member agencies.
The North Carolina Department of the Secretary of the State
N.C. House Bill 1362 authorized the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State to establish an online registry where one may file their Advance Health Care Directives. This voluntary registry program is for people who want their advance directives to be accessible from any computer in case of a crisis situation away from home. Gaston Hospice Services
Gaston Hospice is a local, non-profit healthcare organization that cares for people who have a life-limiting illness that is no longer responding to curative treatment. Hospice care enables these patients to live at home as fully as possible. Hospice puts both patient and family at the center of care planning.
Our Services Include:
- Pain and symptom management
- Assistance with financial and legal issues from a medical social worker
- Emotional and spiritual support from licensed counselors and chaplains
- Certified nursing assistants to help with personal care
- Volunteers to help provide companionship, run errands, etc.
- Respite care when family caregivers need a break

Gaston Hospice serves any resident of Gaston County and the surrounding area who has been diagnosed with a life expectancy of six months or less. Services are provided regardless of diagnosis or ability to pay.
