Gaston Hospice Events: Summer 2013

Gaston Hospice Night at the Grizzlies!
Come out to a Gastonia Grizzlies game and celebrate with Gaston Hospice!  This promises to be a fun-filled family night celebrating with a fun focus on appreciation for Gaston Hospice and our deserving staff.

Saturday, June 1
7:00 p.m.  

 Advance Directive Clinics
Gaston Hospice offers two drop in clinics every month for people to complete a living will and a health care power of attorney.  Hospice social workers will walk you through the steps and make sure that you understand your end of life care options.  They will notarize the documents and provide you with the assurance that your loved ones and family can know and understand your wishes.  These clinics are held in our office on the first Thursday of every month from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and the third Thursday of every month from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

New Hope Counseling Center for Grief and Loss

The following GRIEF CLASSES and SUPPORT GROUPS are offered to the public on an ongoing basis. (For some events pre-registration is required and there may be a $10 fee). Call the Gaston Hospice office for more information on any of these events at (704) 861-8405.

Grief and Faith Seminar - A New Service of Gaston Hospice
Where is God? Why did this happen? Why do bad things happen to good people? Death can deeply impact your faith and raise questions that seem to demand answers. Unfortunately, these answers don't come easily. In this one-day seminar, learn how your faith can help you overcome the need for answers and become the driving force to help you through your grief. For more information or to register, Ann Moss or Chemarra Bryant at 704-861-8405. This seminar will be scheduled based on the demand and preference of registrants.

Understanding Grief after Loss
A one-time class for bereaved who want to understand the grief process and how to live through it. Opportunity for follow-up sessions within the month following your class may be scheduled based on the requests of attendants. ($10)

The Compassionate Friends - Death of a Child (any age) Support Group, Local Chapter
A monthly support group for people who have lost a child. For more information, call Candace Hulsey, Chapter Leader, at (704) 392-2877 (home), or (704) 678-6537 (cell).

A monthly support group for people who are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's Disease or other forms of dementia. Sponsored by Gaston Hospice and the Western Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Gaston Hospice Services

Gaston Hospice is a local, non-profit healthcare organization that cares for people who have a life-limiting illness that is no longer responding to curative treatment. Hospice care enables these patients to live at home as fully as possible. Hospice puts both patient and family at the center of care planning.

Our Services Include:

- Pain and symptom management
- Assistance with financial and legal issues from a medical social worker
- Emotional and spiritual support from licensed counselors and chaplains
- Certified nursing assistants to help with personal care
- Volunteers to help provide companionship, run errands, etc.
- Respite care when family caregivers need a break
- Medications, equipment and supplies
- Grief support for loved ones

We Provide Our Services:

- In the home
- In the Robin Johnson House
- In the long term care facility
- In the hospital

Gaston Hospice serves any resident of Gaston County and the surrounding area who has been diagnosed with a life expectancy of six months or less. Services are provided regardless of diagnosis or ability to pay.
